A Mess Worth Making
Jeremiah Litrell Henderson
There were gaps I couldn’t name — not just in space, but in spirit. Circumstance pressed in from the outside, but the real war was within: a quiet erosion of self worth, the long fight to feel deserving of love, of voice, of vision.
Vulnerability didn’t come easily. It felt like risk. Exposure. Loss. But over time, it led me somewhere unexpected — not to collapse, but to clarity. It taught me that the truest strength is sometimes the softest. And that trust — in others, in process, in self — is the most radical form of faith.
I’ve watched those who claimed light do damage in its name. I’ve seen brotherhood fracture into betrayal, watched the faithful twist into zealots for gain. So I stepped back. Not from belief — but from the performance of it. I chose to rebuild the sacred on quieter terms.
Now, I make art that doesn’t need to be clean — only honest. Because I owe that to the world. To my children. To my lineage. To be better. To make better. To not dishonor the blood that carried me here by staying silent when I was made to create. Litrell Gallery is the evidence. Not of perfection — but of becoming.
This mess, as it turns out, was always worth making.

And this mess, as it turns out,
Was always worth making.
